The state of Il Dylan at age one

He's somewhere between 23 and 24 pounds and is noticeably taller as his head now bangs the kitchen table when he stands up under it. We haven't had an official check-up in a while but we are estimating he's about 31 inches now.

Walking: He's just not that into it. Yes, he's taken a few steps. Yes, he pushes his walking toy around a bit. But he'd much rather crawl. And he's a fast and furious crawler and puller-upper. I'm not that stressed about it but Cristiano's family finds it odd as all of the kids on that side of the family walked by 10 months.

Language use: He's very verbal but tends to learn new words, practice them for a couple of days and then move on. Maybe he's storing them for future use and then will string them all together and amaze us one day. The only things he consistently says now are "no," "mamma," "papà," "nonna" (grandma), "eeya" (for "zia" - aunt) and "na na" (Luana) and "bow bow" (for dog - he goes nuts when he sees a dog outside, on TV or in books). Sometimes he says "ciao" or "bye" but he can't be bothered to do it when you want him to. He obviously tends toward the Italian but he understands both English and Italian. My confusion now with having bought some bilingual toys is that they are in British English and thus use things like "zed" for the letter "z" and "ladybird" instead of "ladybug." Do I sing along "x, y and ZED. Now I know my ABCs..." or do I sing "x, y, zee. Now I know my ABCs..." He's already living in two languages. Do I confuse him with U.S. vs. U.K. English too?

Likes: Saying the word "no." The remote control and pretty much anything else he is not supposed to touch. Taking baths and water in general. Baby Einstein DVDs. Food, specifically yogurt, pasta, bread and oranges.

Disklikes: diaper changes, clothing changes, having cream put on.
